Loctite 242 Threadlock MOD - 50ML Bottle

Loctite 242 is a medium-strength, blue threadlocking adhesive for metal fasteners. This medium viscosity thixotropic threadlocking formula locks and seals bolts, nuts, and studs to prevent loosening from vibration while allowing normal disassembly with standard hand tools. It is ideal as a threadlocking adhesive for metal in maintenance and production environments.

How it works (Anaerobic curing)

Loctite 242 cures by anaerobic curing: once confined between metal threads and isolated from air, the adhesive polymerises to create a tough, chemical-resistant bond. The thixotropic behaviour helps prevent migration after application, so it stays where you place it—even on vertical threads.

Typical Applications

Use on gearboxes, pumps, compressors, machine tools, automotive and aerospace assemblies where fasteners may require later service. Suitable for metal thread sizes up to M36.

How to Use

1. Prepare: Clean male and female threads to remove oil and debris.
2. Apply: Add a small bead to the leading threads of the bolt; for blind holes, apply to the hole and the bolt.
3. Assemble: Tighten to specification. The thixotropic formula helps prevent migration after application.
4. Cure: Fixture in minutes; full strength in 24 hours via anaerobic curing.
5. Disassemble: Remove with standard hand tools when service is required.

On passive metals such as stainless steel or at low temperatures, use Loctite Activator 7471 or 7649 to accelerate cure.
