Product Information

PPG PR1440 Class A Aircraft Integral Fuel Tank Sealant is a high-performance two-component polysulfide system engineered for sealing fasteners, seams, rivets and joints inside aircraft fuel tanks. Suitable for both OEM production and MRO applications, the PR1440 Class A range provides excellent resistance to aviation fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, water and a wide range of chemicals.

Curing at room temperature, the sealant forms a resilient, flexible elastomer that maintains its integrity under continuous fuel exposure and extreme temperature cycling. PR1440 Class A performs reliably across a service temperature range of –65°F (–54°C) to 250°F (121°C), with intermittent exposure up to 275°F (135°C). It adheres strongly to common aircraft substrates including anodized aluminium, alodine-treated aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and IFT-coated surfaces, demonstrating peel strengths up to 36 pli depending on substrate.

The range is formulated to be brush-applied in thin layers up to 25 mils and is available in several application-life grades (A-½, A-2, etc.) to support different process speeds and working times. Once cured, the material offers excellent flexibility, low-temperature crack resistance and strong cohesive strength, ensuring long-term sealing performance in demanding fuel tank environments.

PR1440 Class A is non-nutrient, fungus-resistant, and compatible with industry surface-preparation standards such as SAE AIR 4069. It is supplied in two-part kits, Semco cartridges, and premixed/frozen packaging options.

This parent product covers the full PR1440 Class A family, with variations differing only in application life (e.g., A-½, A-1, A-2) while maintaining the same cured performance characteristics.
